We believe in the Elkers! Our athletics program is a source of school and community pride, and we welcome all to come on out and share in the excitement we feel at every competitive event. Your support matters, whether as a teammate, as a member of the booster club, or cheering our athletes on from the sidelines.

Spectator Decorum

We prohibit the presence and/or use of balloons, banners, laser pointers, noisemakers, pom-poms (by spectators), shakers, signs, sirens, strips of material, towels, whistles, and/or portable listening devices (without earphones) at all PIAA and District IX athletics events. The principal and athletics director of each school will confiscate these items from their cheerleaders and/or spectators from their school and community. We do permit the use of pom-poms by cheerleaders and small listening devices with earphones. During basketball contests, cheerleaders may utilize portable signs in their cheer performances and confirm that this does not violate the intent of the no sign policy. We also prohibit spectators from removing their shirt and/or using body paint while in attendance at district and inter-district championship contests. Principals and athletics directors of competing schools shall announce and publicize these regulations as well.

Handicap Access to Ridgway Football Games

We will have a van available for individuals who need assistance getting up to the football field for all home football games in Ridgway. The van will run from 6:15-7:00 p.m. and then exit the stadium on an as needed basis. The pick up and drop off location will be the gym circle.

Our Athletics Department

Our coaching staff believes that participation in sports strengthens the mind as well as the body, develops leadership skills, and teaches critical social skills. Please don’t hesitate to contact our department with your questions or concerns.

Athletics Guidelines

Attendance: The student must be present in school by 8:30 a.m. in order to participate in any practice, game, or activity on that particular day. If a student is tardy after 8:30 a.m., he/she will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities that day unless he/she submits a doctor or dentist appointment slip upon arrival to school after the appointment.

Those students coming from a doctor or dentist appointment must be in school a minimum of a half day (at least four hours) and submit a doctor’s slip. As in all cases, the high school principal will review tardiness. The principal reserves the right to accept or reject tardiness on an individual basis depending on circumstances.

Eligibility for Athletics

Eligibility is completed on Friday’s, two weeks after school starts, and two weeks after each new quarter. Eligibility is completed every Friday generally, and other days as necessary due to breaks/holidays (notice is made via announcements to students). We notify students and parents on Friday’s of their ineligibility. Eligibility runs the coming Sunday to Saturday. Student are ineligible who have more than one failing grade. High school students must attend Campus Center Monday to Thursday and middle school students attend Homework Club Tuesdays to Thursdays. When a grading quarter ends, if a student has more than one failing grade, that student is ineligible fifteen (15) school days, from the day report cards are mailed per PIAA.
